Old Plank Road Baptist Church Men's Outing - Pheasant Shoot @ Owen Farm in Alapaha, GA to support the Georgia Hunting and Fishing Federation. Day started with ...breakfast at Aunt Jans Kitchen (great place to eat) and ended with dinner at Ray's Millpond Cafe (best catfish). Great day of fellowship and Bro Larry gave a short message on integrity. Only took one group this time (sign up is 20 max per group). Going to need several groups next time as this group filled up fast and others wanting to go.

The Georgia Hunting and Fishing Federation (GHFF) held its 11th Annual Pheasant Shoot on Saturday, February 4th, on the Owen Farm in Alapaha, Georgia.
It was the first of three fund-raising shoots planned for the year. The second event will take place on Saturday, February 18, and the third shoot on March 4. All shoots take place on the Owen Farm and begin at 9:00 AM.
Each shoot is available to 20 shooters who reserve a spot and pay their $225 shooting fee. Payment includes a one-year membership to GHFF plus a cap or shirt and a delicious catered lunch on the day of the shoot. Reserve your spot on the next two shoots by calling Ronnie Gaskins at 229-445-0804 or emailing email@example.com. The first event was a sell-out.
Continental pheasant shoots are exciting, safe, and produce take-home meat for the sportsman’s table. The layout is a harvested field where ten, round hay bales (two shooters per bale) are positioned 70 yards apart and 110 yards from the peanut wagon in the center of a circle where the pheasants were released. After the release of twenty birds, shooters rotate to the next hay bale.
On the day of the first shoot, we had a brisk wind which caused the birds, when released, to gain altitude fast and achieve a high rate of speed. These shoots separate the “men from the boys” and will test your aim/lead, your shells, and your shotgun. The pick-up tally at end of the shoot produced 166 hens and roosters and only 36 pheasants successfully reached the wood line safely. An 82% percentage is respectable under prevailing conditions.
Danny Roberson, owner of Roberson Farm Kennels, a South Georgia Labrador retriever breeder and trainer and GHFF partner, provided handlers and pick-up dogs that showed us energetic and obedient dog work all morning.
The GHFF was founded in 2003 and is a solid grassroots organization dedicated to protecting our hunting heritage, introducing youth to hunting and fishing, and safeguarding our interests in the halls of the Georgia Legislature and the Department of Natural Resources. I have been a member for several years and I fully support and applaud GHFF for its programs and activities. I strongly urge all Georgia sportsmen to go to their website, www.gh-ff.org and see what they do and also join the organization. An annual membership is only $25.
