Hunters Safety Education Course Information

The Georgia Hunting And Fishing Federation, The Ware County Chapter of the GHFF, and the Georgia DNR will be providing an opportunity to those young hunters needing to complete a Hunters Safety Education Course. Testing will be conducted in the Exchange Club Building located on the Fair Grounds on Saturday Morning, April 18th, 2015 from 10:00 am until 12:00 Noon.

I have got the class set up for April 18th, 2015 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. Each student will need to register for the on-line class prior to Thursday April 16th, 2015 at www.gohuntgeorgia.com. Also, prior to attending the class each student will have to take and complete the online Hunter Education Class. Taking an online hunter education course is a convenient alternative to the 10-hour classroom course. There are four courses currently available, all are approved by the State of Georgia. Courses are available for varying fees. Fees for these courses are charged by and collected by the course developer. These classes are located at http://www.gohuntgeorgia.com/Hunting/HunterEdCourse.

Once the student has successfully finished any of the online courses, they will need to attend a local, scheduled 2-hour review and test to complete course certification (which will be offered on April 18th, 2015).

2014 GHFF Benefit Hunt was held August 1 & 2 in Swainsboro, GA. The event was kicked off Friday evening with the KIDS handling bench show which awarded all the kids with medallions and prizes for their participation. The bench show followed with a host of well-groomed field trial hounds. The best male and best in show went to Kenny Williams, Nahunta, GA. with #611 R & W's Bogie and the best opposite sex went to Twister out of the Little Uchie Kennels. Around 5 am Saturday morning the dog owner and judges begin to fill the staging area to get their dogs signed up and ready for roll call. By the casting time at 6 o'clock there was 175 dogs entered in the hunt and 31 judges who volunteered their time to come support this event. Over 1990 scores was turned in by the judges in a fabulous mourning of running and it took a score of 715 to win and 430 to place in the field trial.

Jason's Paris P of Night Moves Kennels Metter, GA, 3rd place was Dyno's Trixie owned by Danny Anderson Screven, GA, 4th place dog was SGA NFL (f) Ch Sand Spur Lil Digger of Slump Buster Kennels, 5th place went to Riley's R C owned by Riley Claxton Baxley, GA, and 6th place dog was Gus of Night Moves Kennels Metter, GA, 7th place went to Bobby's Dillenger owned by Bobby Parker Ludowici, GA, 8th went to Black out of Thunder Ridge Kennels Blackshear, GA, 9th was Hagan's Mountain Man from State-Lyne Kennels St. Augustine, FL, and 10th place was rounded out by Hopper's Cool-Whip of Hopper's Kennels Brooklet, GA.

Special thanks goes to the promoters of this event Newt and Irene Fiveash and Jake & Ellen Patrick, they do an awesome job putting together this hunt and insuring its success! Andy Bedgood did a great job as Master of Hounds and bench show judge. The sponsors and supporters that donated to the event were exceptual this year starting with Johnson's Dog Supplies (Troy Johnson, corporate sponsor and contributor), Showtime (Midsouth Feeds), Specialty Feeds, Albany Vet Supply, Johnson Telemetry, Quick Tract, Wildlife Materials, Magnum Telemetry, Arabi Feed & Grain, Hunter's Horn, Black Gold Dog Food, The Chase Publishing Co., Stewart Candy Co., Florida State Fox Hunters, Ockeefenokee Training Preserve, and Drayton Stillwell Fox Pen.

The meal provided by Crisp Co Chapter GHFF (Westley Fiveash, Bob Addison, and Rodney Walker) was awesome!

The United Fox pen management were superb host for this event and they run a top shelf facility at their training pen. Surely the cultural heritage of fox trialing in Georgia has a bright future due to efforts of those who passionately support this sport!
